perhaps if it is divx you need a newer version of the codec to match what it was encoded with. mines usually show a frame or two and just stay there while the rest of the video sound played.

check the codec with something like gspot and then see if you actually have the needed codec. it's possible that you have a close but not close enough match like TheWart suggests.
