I recnetly reformated my old PC with win 98. I had meda player running on it, but hadn't installed the sound card yet (it took a while to find the drivers). as soon a I installed the drivers for the sound card media player stopped working. when I open files (mp3, mpg, etc) the bottom of the screen usually says "opening media" or "connecting". I have tried to reinstall media player several times. untinstall it first (it does a roll back to version originally on win 98) and reinstall it, but nothng works. I can still use winamp to play music, so I think the sound card is working fine.

I'm not sure what else to do other than messing with the sound card, and am trying to avoid doing that.

please help

go into options menu and device tab. make sure it is using the correct sound card.
