Windows Media Player 8.0 won't stream mpegs anymore...

argh.... WMP won't stream mpegs off the web anymore. Usually i would click a movie and it would open up in WMP and start playing as it downloads. Now it just gives some error that says

"Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

It still streams WMV format, no surprise there, but mpegs won't stream at all for me. This happens on all mpegs i've tired on the net.

I can save it to my HD and then click it and it will play, but that's all.

I figured maybe if i update to WMP 9 that it would fix the problem, but it did not. This problem just happened out of the blue too. It was all working fine for months and months.

I then formatted and reinstalled XP since i haven't done that for like 6 months. I did that and installed all the XP updates along with all the stuff i usualy use and it all worked fine last night. I could stream MPEGS and all. Well now i just treid to watch a video and again it won't stream!!!!

Anybody know what is wrong???

Thanks!!

thanks but i sloved the problem..

I dug deeper then the just the error messge and click the link for more technical detail and got this...

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.4487 ModName: mcspmpeg.ax
ModVer: 1.0.0.30 Offset: 00006652

I searched for the file named mcspmpeg.ax and it was a shared plugin for a sonic foundary product i have. I renamed it by putting a " - " at the end of the file name and I could play mpegs again.

wierd stuff, i had the program installed for a long time. So it was probably some new XP update that started to conflict with it.
