windows media player 7 crappy performance

hello. i am running win2000 with 384 MB of PC-100 RAM and a p3 600 o/c to 840 on an asus p3v4x motherboard and windows media player 7 freezes up sometimes when i go to play music. it utilizes way too many resources. why does "microshaft" like to release bloated software that eats up so much resources? i guess i should use winamp or something.

Hey man, leave me out of this 🙂

Seriously though, drop WMP7 and go back to 6.4 (THe files are still there).

I think that I am the only one that like WMP7, it has crashed once or twice, but that is all

I too detest the brain-boggling bloated beast, known as Windows Media Player 7.

Where can one get WMP 6.4? Micro$oft took 6.4 for win9x off it's site, leaving only the NT versions of 6.4.

Either rename all the mplayer2.exe files to what wmplayer.exe is now, or run mplayer2.exe and associate all the files with it.

And anytime it tells you there's a newer version available, tell it to stick it where the sun don't shine.

MP7 runs fine on my box.... but I don't like the layout so I use *gag* Real jukebox. I would prefer to use winamp but it's just not as nice as realjukebox. Boy I really hate those REAL bastardos too. But, a good program is a good program, no matter who wrote it. Unfortunately it is a major resource hog.

i had the similar performance problems ....WMP just sucks too bad ...the old one is much better when it comes to playing any type of file... music or avi ...find and download the old one

I like WM7 for it's support for playlists although it's a little confusing at first to figure out how to set one up. I dont like that they make you scan your entire harddrive first to be able to add media to a playlist.
