Windows Media Player 6.4 video plays too dark

When using Windows Media Player 6.4 in Win2k to play videos (AVIs) the video starts out the correct brightness but gets darker after about 3 seconds. I've done a bunch of Google news group searches and a lot of people have the same problem, but no one seems to know a solution.

Is this a problem with WMP? When I run the same video with Real Player, it looks okay. I'd rather not have to use RealPlayer all the time, though, as it has other issues. Is this a problem with the DivX codec? I have it installed. I've also installed the codec known as the MPEG 4 fix.

Any ideas? Any other players I can try that play videos with the correct brightness? Thanks!

For MPEG-4, after opening the file go to File Properties Advanced and the brightness can be adjusted from there. It is also possible that your video drivers have an option to brighten video using overlay - S3 has that function, I recall.

Since in plays correctly in RealPlayer, I don't think it's the video drivers. I think it's a problem with Windows Media Player or the DivX codec (maybe RealPlayer uses a different DivX than WMP).
