Windows Media Player 11 (beta)

I just installed Windows Media Player 11 (currently in beta stage). I haven't had any issues yet, and noticed that it was able to search through a ton of songs, and add them to the library in almost no time at all.

The program loads incredibly fast, much faster than the previous WMP 10 and iTunes.

The interface is very easy to use, and has support for dual monitors. You can watch a movie or listen to an mp3 on one monitor in fullscreen, and still use the other.

Download: Windows Media Player 11

I get that with virtually every video I play in any version of WMP. I use VLC for videos.

yeap thats what i use...i dont understand why MS cant compete and include codecs like VLC

have had no issues with wmp11, been using it for a while now.
the dual monitor support was present in 10.

get ffdshow, it gets rid of any possible codec issues you may face.

"the dual monitor support was present in 10. "
- I had it, and it never worked. When it was playing in one screen, you couldn't do anything in the other, assuming it was in full screen mode.

You see, Microsoft is fvcked if they do and they're fvcked if they don't. If they were to include all the codecs they'd be blasted by the anti-Microsoft witchhunt establishment and sued for non-competitive practices. In this case, they don't include the third party codecs and they get slammed for not being the complete, all-in-one software solution.

🙂

Can VLC play QuickTime movie trailers?
I currently click on the link, in the Internet Explorer, and QuickTime player automatically starts and plays the streaming trailer.

How do you set up Internet Explorer to start VLC instead?

Should be just a codec problem, I can play all the videos I'm supposed to be able to play.

I like it mostly so far, there are some performance problems with Vista not allocating enough cpu time to it when opening up other apps which causing the music to skip, but w/e they'll have it fixed.

The interface is very sleek and it's definitely an improvement over wmp 10. My only beef with 11 however is that if it sees a song that it thinks doesn't belong in the album (by comparing with its on line music store I'm assuming) even though it does, it splits up your album and there isn't a way I can see you can put them back together. I just noticed that there are countless spelling errors on the part of Microsoft and because of that it thinks the songs you have that are spelled correctly aren't part of the album its in.

I really like it. Makes browsing through my collection (I have over 200 albums in my HDD) much easier than any other player I had used before. Plus, I love the 'find as you type' search funtion. It has also been able to play anything I throw at it.

When watching movies, I like that the player overrides the screen saver and monitor sleep mode functions of Windows. In WMP10, the screensaver would pop up after its alloted time, forcing me to either turn it off everytime I watched a movie, or to stand up and move my mouse around to shut it off every 15 minutes.

My only gripe is the same as oddyager's; it seems to 'split' some albums, specially compilations, into the albums they originally were part of (which didn't happen in WMP10). For example, I have the soundtrack for the film 'Amélie' in my HDD. Since some of the tracks of that album were taken from earlier records by the same composer (Yann Tiersen), the tracks are thus spread accross 4 albums I don't own.

Other than that, I love it.

The only way I could get around it is if I highlight and edit all the tracks that I know are in one album, and do an Advanced Tag Editor and then check off album name and artist and contributing artist, they will all be consolidated. Restarting WMP 11 doesn't seem to break it up again whihc is good.

i've been using it for a week now, and I like it a lot. THE SPACEBAR IS FINALLY BACK!!!! goddamn took forever sheesh. I like it better than winamp.
