I seen this happen all the time if I wait to open windows media center after I used my windows vista 64 bit pc for a while. Most of the time if I open up windows media center before I start using my pc mainly windows media center plays fine and the sound never skips, freezes, video jumps, or video turns blue. This has happen on other media center software as well like sagetv and beyondtv but so far windows media center seems to be the most stable at the time. My tv card is a pvr-150 and I have the latest windows vista 64 bit drivers.

Not necessarily, a lot of media players (especially WMP and MCE) have certain uses for graphics hardware during video playback.

It could be something to do with graphics drivers and overlay, DirectX/VMR9, etc... It could also have something to do with your choice of codecs. I recommend using CCCP or K-lite.

Oh, so this only happens when you use PVR software to watch TV/recordings? Well, since they record to mpeg2, which certainly uses video hardware acceleration, you still might try checking your video drivers. Otherwise my guess is it's something to do with either your tuner card itself, or poor signal coming in. MCE will make skipping/jerky recorded video if the signal is lost or crappy.

For example, for whatever reason VH1 had crap cable signal coming in to my apt the other night. So "Rock of Love" became a jerky mess, skipping parts when there was signal loss.

Other than that I have no ideas.
