Windows Media Center won't start!

I have a laptop that I installed Windows 7 32-bit on several months ago (it previously had Vista). I did not do a clean install. When I try to open Windows Media Center, I get the message, 'windows media center has stopped working...windows is checking for a solution to the problem...'. After a couple of seconds the message goes away and nothing happens.

I have looked around for solutions and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMC in the Control Panel - Programs - Features area. I have also gone into the C\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome folder and renamed the 'mediacenterstoredate.db' like some suggested because this file may be corrupt.

I am at a loss as to what the problem could be. I would prefer not to do a clean install and I'm looking for any other options I may have to fix this. Thanks!

Is there anything obvious happening when you look in the system event viewer? Look for stuff with timestamps of around the same time.

Yes, there is an Information log generated everytime I try and run WMC:

Fault bucket, type 0
Event Name: CLR20r3
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: ehshell.exe
There is a bunch of other stuff in the file, but do you think something is wrong with that exe file?

Thanks for the suggestions, I tried both of those and neither of them worked. I will keep looking around, but maybe my only option is to do a clean install.

Might as well. By now you've probably killed more time trying to root out the problem than it would take re-installing the OS and your apps. I do hate it when error messages are so unspecific and impossible to figure out.

FWIW, you might consider switching to 64-bit anyway.
