Windows Media Center or Vista?

Which one should I install at this point?

Also, if Media Center, is it even worth it without a TV tuner and remote?

Why not WinXP instead? I mean, if you're not going to use the features of Media Center, why use it?

Vista isn't out yet and the reason is it's not ready for release. If you want to use a beta as your primary OS then that's up to you but don't expect stability or compatibility. ;)

Well, this is a media computer. 300+ movies, many seasons of shows, 40GBs of music, and only a few games that I ever actually play. I figured one of those operating systems would fit me better. Are the features not worth it without the controller?

Unless you enjoy sitting 2 feet away from your computer monitor to watch all that media, I would get the remote. It's not that expensive.

The MCE UI is also referred to as the 10 foot UI, since it is designed to be viewed from 10 feet away, sitting on a couch.

If you don't have any interest in recording TV, then don't buy a tuner. But MCE without a remote is not much fun.

Well, I currently do most of my surfing/watching movies/shows on my TV with my wireless keyboard, so 10ft away is no problem.

That will probably work then. You can find the remote online for like 15-30 bucks, so it's not a big deal.

The last MS Remote I got at Newegg was around $30. As mentioned, MCE without an MS Remote is pretty pointless.
