Windows Me-- THUMB BUTTON & WHEEL stopped working in Quake 3

The thumb button on my Microsoft Optical USB mouse was set to "Back," and was bound to my rocket in Q3A. With the upgrade to Me, it still works in windows but stopped working in Q3A, along with the wheelup/wheeldown. Changing it's setting in intellipoint from back to ALT fixed the issue in Q3A, although wheelup/down still doesn't work. The problem is that now I can't use the thumb button to go backwards in IE, something I'm quite used to.

So, why has Q3A stopped recognizing "0x00" and the wheel? Help!

I tried reinstalling the old Direct input 7.0a patch, but since it was older it was refused (this fixed this to begin with). Any ideas?

I thought Q3 never supported the wheel right in the first place..

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...thanks Carmack

It is a Quake 3 problem. You set it and for no reason it stops working. I got pissed at it and uninstalled Quake 3 and threw it away. hated the game anyway.

It doesn't stop for no reason, it stops when direct input is reinitialized mid game. Like when you go into the system menus and change anything and return to the game. My mouse works but I have to go through and fully configure the game and then exit and restart...not such a big deal.
