Windows ME - TCP/IP/Winsock problem

Have a Windows ME system, winipcfg shows good NIC (MAC address, IP, etc.). Connected to a working Firewall/DHCP server.

Problem - System receives a IP address with proper DNS info., etc. DNS is working, I get resolution for normal Internet sites. However, when I try to ping those sites either by DNS name or IP I get nothing.

I have tried to fix any Winsock issues with multiple different tools, re-installing DUN/IP, etc.

Any hints?

Thanks.

you mention firewall. firewalls can block outbound pings. are you sure that this is not occurring? you should disable the firewall while trying to determine the problem.

A lot of websites block ICMP traffic. Maybe you can't ping those sites because they don't want you too. To see if ping works, try to ping your router.

I can ping the router, and other systems work fine behind the firewall. It looks like components of Winsock got hosed by SpyWare/Viruses. I tried different methods of re-installing the Winsock components to no avail. Dang, Win Me sucks :>
