The simplest and most economical fix for this problem is to buy a good operating system like Windows 2000 and trash ME.

Ah thread crappers..., they are so helpful.

Can you boot into safe mode? If not, a reload over the top may work. You might check the capacitors on the motherboard to see if they are puffed up on the top, or are leaking. You might run diagnostics for the brand of hard drive it is. Your drive could be making bad spots.

Disabling scandisk fixed it for me, so crap on you.

  1. Download Shareeza or Limewire
  2. Download Windows 2000 Advanced Server.ISO
  3. Burn it to CD
  4. Scan the CD for Virus'
  5. Insert the disk in the CD-ROM Drive
  6. Reboot using the CD, Install it and Enjoy.

you waste a whole cd if you burn it and the ISO contains a virus.
edit: i am in no way advocating software piracy.

At 10-25¢ each they are pretty darn cheap and it beats wasting an hour of installing windows and then an Anti-virus scanner to then find out your system is infected. Don't be frugal on something like this. After All he is Saving $300 on instable bloat ware.

your other option is:
  1. Install Linux (Suse, Gentoo, Xandros, Debain)

I forgot that Nero will do a Virus Check before you burn, that would be a better idea if you have a scanner installed on your PC.
