Windows ME OS Wont Boot Up

I know how I screwed up but how do I recover from this?? I tried to install the wrong version of Mcafee Visus Scan on top of my existing version 8 and now I cant do anything. It wont let me delete the program cause the computer runs at a snails pace. I tried getting to the safe boot up procedure but it just zips right pass the screen and goes to the windows Me splash screen!! What can I do?? I tried getting to the safe boot screen by using the floppy dixc emergency disk I made from the Me software a while ago!! I use the control key but it just zooms by the optional boot up choices and goes to the Me splash screen!! Thanks

Have you tried hitting "F8" ?

Thanks I used the F8 key but only could get to the boot up options not the safe mode. But I found out that if I held down the control key and at just right time used the down arrow key I could get it to the safe mode. From there I changed the start up options to diagnostic and from there I was able to delete all the Virus Scan Programs and then it booted up fine and runs fine!!
