Windows ME cleanup?

This old junker PC has windows ME and its been ravaged by spyware and adware malware... u name it this PC prolly has it. Thing is AVG/Adaware/Spybot (all up too date) dont remove the nasties. Adaware simply fails at the deleting stage, AVG removes half of the trojans but they re-appear after the reccomended reboot and same with spybot. Any way to clean up this mess? Apart from a clean install?

Well, you can turn of the Windows Restore thing ME has, then the nasties that are removed won't be able to come back, its somewhere under system properties. Right at the bottom of this list of check boxes.

Haven't work on ME (lucky me!) in a while, so that is all I can remember.

also might try in safe mode, but turn off sys restore for sure, use the advanced mode in spybot

Never forget the standalone version of CWShredder. CoolWebSearch has files that regenerate, thanks to hidden files and registry entries. CWShredder can remove or cripple these things.

And don't forget, if you've got files that you just can't delete in Windows, there's always DOS, since you've got the FAT32 file system. I was working on someone's PC, infected with the IBIS toolbar. They had WinXP, but I discovered that they were using FAT32. In this case, it was a good thing. Booted to DOS, and wiped out the entire IBIS folder. Quick and simple. Even Killbox couldn't delete those damn files.
