Windows ME bluescreens, vcomm?

I'm getting BSODs pretty much everyday, several times a day. They always start out saying an error has occured, related to VCOMM(05). Then pressing enter brings up more blue screens where it says an OE exception has occured with VMM VXD. Then it usually reboots after pressing enter a few times. I've reinstalled windows a few times. I've replaced the vcomm.vxd as well as others. So far neither thing has worked. Anyone have an idea of what I can do or what the problem might be?
My specs are athlon 1.2, 256 sdram, 40 gig harddrive. Anyways, any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Solution: DUMP WINDOWS ME!

The crappiest "modern" OS Microsoft has ever released. If you can't go up to 2000 or XP, even going back to 98SE would be an improvement.

Seriously, though, that kind of thing happens all the time on ME, and it's the kind of thing that shouldn't happen ever. I found some stuff by googling it:

Don't know what to say other than that.

Hi colbydolby and Welcome tot he Forums!

I know how everyone hates winME, but I've got it on a system and don't have problems with it.

I wouldv'e suggested using the system retore feature and go back to b4 this prob started. However, looks like you've reinstalled, so any restore points are gone.

Since reinstalling, have you got all the chipset drivers etc back in?

Might run memtest86 overnight to help rule out a hardware (ram) problem. I'd prolly put Motherboard Monitor 5 on there to monitor the PSU too.

HERE'S a site that may have some helpful info.

Good Luck with it,

Fern

Greetings, vcomm(5) points to a corrupt video driver but I have also seen these errors from adware/spyware and even bad power supplies with intermittent power drops. Try installing new drivers first. Good luck,
Magnus

If that system you use is faster than 1GHz, it is completely pointless to be using such a POS OS like Windows ME. Get WIndows 2000 or XP and install it on there.

Ugh, Windows Me. When I first installed that on a system back in 2001, Windows Setup bluescreened twice. That says a lot about it. I ditched it as soon as XP came out.
Funny thing is, I use WinMe more on VirtualPC on my mac because it's so much faster than XP.
