Windows ME and Memory

Windows ME, at least mine is using a lot of memory. Currently 256mb of physical memory and 55mb of physical memory free as specified by Sandra Sys. Anyone else experience this? Is there a regedit or fix for it?

I get low memory warnings while playing QIII.
 
depends on what you are running in addition to qIII

make sure your page file has room to grow if it needs to.
 
I usually don't run anything on my machine. All the start up items from my system config are far and few between i.e. scanregistry, systemtray, loadpowerprofile, vshwin32exe, vsstatexe, vsecomrexe, vshwin32exe and that is it.

I've searched the web and so far can't come up with a reason why winME is using so much physical memory. I guess I could down load cacheman or an after market memory reclaimer but really don't want to.
 
Yeah, Macafee takes up a lot of memory! If you're running ME, where are all the other system apps? disabled?
 
I have no applications in the startup. Also all the programs you install tend to love to put them in the initial windows start which is not needed.
