Windows ME and DSL Connection Problems

Ever since doing a full install of Windows ME, I haven't been able to get Internet Explorer 5.5 to access the internet through my DSL connection. What I have to do is disconnect and than reconnect the cable at my NIC. Once I do this, I am able to get I.E. 5.5 to access the net until the next time I have to powerdown/restart. Once I do, I have to repeat the process over again.

Here are some specifics on my system:

1.Mindspring DSL, all Mindspring Max software removed.
2.Windows ME.
3.Netgear FA311 NIC with driver version 1.30. Compatiable with Windows ME.
4.Netgear RT314 Gateway Router.
5.Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5260 external modem.

Under Windows 98 SE, I had no problems connecting. I've tried reinstalling the NIC and moving it from slot 6 to slot 5, still no luck.

Any help/advice/info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Greenhorn1

That was the first place I tried. I received a few tips, but none that solved my problem.

Thanks for the reply though,

I'm not familiar with your brand of hardware, but it sort of sounds like your router firmware is not compatible with ME. That's just a wild guess.

However, other firmware issues I've seen required powering down/repowering the router rather than disconnecting/reconnecting the nic cable.

Since you're stuck anyway, check to see if Netgear has a newer version of firmware than you're using.

And/or have you tried downloading/installing the latest IE 5.5 fixes from MS?
