Windows ME and DMA problem: I can't disable DMA on my CD Burner!

I need to disable DMA so that I can update the firmware on my TEAC CDW54-E. When I go to the device manager and un-check 'DMA', the computer asks to reboot. After reboot, DMA is still checked. In fact, if I uncheck DMA and then say I will reboot later, and then go back into the device manager, DMA is still checked! Is there a special trick that I need to do in order to disable DMA for a short time so I can update the firmware? Is there a registry entry I can change? Thanks in advance.

Well, I just did a registry search and found a key called "DMACurrentlyUsed" under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ENUM/SCSI/. I will see if making this key value "00" instead of "01" will work. Any other ideas?
