Adaptec Easy CD Creator no longer requires APSI as of version 4.02+. Now, CDR Identifier and similar programs require a correctly functioning ASPI layer. A visit to Adaptec's web site explicitly states that aspi32.exe should not be installed on Windows 2000 or Windows ME (Not to mention the fact that you must have an appropiate product to even make the software install). Some in the newsgroups claim that the Adaptec layer works fine in ME and 2000, while others supposedly have hosed their boxes!

Does anyone know of an ASPI layer that is officially supported under Windows ME?
Do you think the Adaptec warning is just a scare tatic to reduce support calls?
Has anyone with ME updated their ASPI layer/ if so what layer did you use?
Any idea if Steve Gibson's new ASPI ME layer will be available soon?

Thanks
