If I get Windows MCE now I can upgrade to Vista Home Premium for free. If I go straight to Vista Home Premium it will cost me $50 more than MCE. Is the full version of Vista Premium worth $50 more than an upgraded version?

IMO no it isn't worth more for the full than the upgrade, the same bits are on the disk, as long as you have a qualifying OS Disk you can make a clean full install with the upgrade disk.
I agree, save the $50 unless you consider your time VERY VERY valuable. I'm guessing you don't since you're posting about whether or not to save the $50. 😛
No it will not cost you any more to go directly to Vista Premium. $119 for Vista P from the egg today. $109 for MCE + $13.20 shipping for the upgrade to Vista.
Have been using both for months........Go Vista, much less buggy. Better overall.
