Windows MCE (Media Center) is giving me an error message about my TV Tuner.

I installed Windows MCE on a computer and installed a video card, using the manufacturer's drivers. When I try to configure the TV settings in MCE, I get this error message:
"The tuner hardware is either malfunctioning or not installed. Please ensure that both the tuner hardware and a valid tuner hardware driver are installed."

The card works fine outside of MCE, and other people have used the same model of card in MCE. I tried googling for the error, and some people noted a problematic codec. However, I do not have that codec installed on my system.

My card is a Leadtek TV2000 Deluxe.

I am running 2002 MCE with Service Pack 2.

Leadtek TV2000 Deluxe is not a hardware encoder card and is not supported in MCE 2005...nobody uses it in MCE 2005.

Thanks for the info. I thought that I would be able to watch TV, just not record it. I guess that I'll look into a regular hauppage or some HD card.

It may very well work outside of the MCE application however, so you should be a able to use any directshow TV software, maybe try Windows Movie Maker just to check.

I don't have MCE, but here's what I've read. You can only use the MCE features with a TV card that has hardware encoding. The leadtek does not support the hardware encoding required so MCE will refuse to activate.

The Leadtec card will work fine if the MCE features aren't activated. If you want/need to use MCE you'll need another TV card that's compatable with MCE.

Thats about the gist of it. However, MCE features aren't "activated" so to speak, MCE is more an application that runs on top of XP, you won't be able to use the leadtek card within the MCE application, but probably outside the MCE "application".

So "...nobody uses it in MCE 2005" likely isn't accurate, but it seems silly to use a card like that instead of just picking up a hardware card if you are going to use MCE. I paid ~$40 for a refurb eHome wonder card that works great in MCE for instance.
