windows loading screen stuck

Ok just put a new CDRW drive in friends computer, set it to slave, bam get my POST signal, shwos bios both drives detected, blah blah....well its on WIN ME, and right at the loading screen where it shows windows ME logo and stuff, it stays there, i still see the little bar moving at the bottom, but it stays there?

any ideas?
I was in windows earlier... i switched out his ram from 133 to 100, cause i bought the 133 from him and gave him my 100....its a 650mhz amd, 294 rampc 100 with win ME

What brand/model CDRW is it? Which IDE port is it hooked up to? Is the CDRW now the only drive in the system, or is it being added to an existing CD-ROM?

Pull out the CD-RW, and fire it up, and see if all is fine after that.
if it is, must be a jumper problem on the CD-RW... fix that and install it and turn on again.

I agree...it sounds like a jumper issue. I would recommend setting the CDRW as master on its own channel if possible, otherwise put the cdrom/dvd as a slave and the cdrw as master.

Hey, I set the jumper back to(on the new CDRW) to master... and unplugged the other cd drive...same prob... I even put my HD on my fiends computer and it loaded all the way until I got in the login screen and stayed there..... so then I took out the CDRW and plugged up everythinglike it was before the burner was installed, same prob.... It was working earlier that day..... you think if I reset the cmos, it might work? if not I'm gonna put an older HD I have in it, and then just reinstall windows.....
