Well I'm using this because no other packages were available when I installed vista so I had to have something. Well this gem of a program acts weird anyway however now it refuses to update itself and shows a large red icon in the system tray. Is anybody else having this problem? I'll be glad when one of the established utility makers comes out with a real protection package and I don't mean norton 360 either.

Usually the red shield in the system tray will also have a message about the specifics of the error. Double-click on it to open the security center and find out.

I'm guessing that it's simply out-of-date and needs to be updated. Does it use Microsoft Update instead of it's own update utility?

It has it's own update feature, I ran the ms error log generator before I posted here and in the end had to uninstall it then reinstall it. There's a huge thread over at the ms forums about this issue plus several articles in the ms knowledge base. They really needed to test their stuff just a little bit longer before releasing it to the buying public.
