Windows Key Already in Use?

So, I posted earlier about getting windows to install correctly. I finally got it right, but now.. when I try to change the CD Key, (My dad lost my original CD, so I've been using a pirated copy, but then using the Windows Product Key Update Tool to legitimize it) this time, it gives me a "this key is already in use." But I know that it's in use by me.

I can't use their technical support, because my product code (not the key) is of the pirated CD, and i'm not about to pay $35 to do it.

I'm somewhat intimidated to call them, to tell them that I'm using a pirated CD and legitimate copy, because I know how shady that sounds. However, I'm not sure how else to get it to work.

And Merry Christmas, BTW.

i don't have the legitimate CD. that's the only reason I've been using a pirated copy.

it worked before, because that's how i installed windows the first time. how can i let windows know that the key that is currently in use, is on this exact same computer (on a different hard drive).

you can use a product such as nlite to create an unattended install cd with your legit code...however, you will most likely run into issues activating it.
