Windows just won't start the network adapter on fresh XP install

I'm trying to use Windows (or even my adapter's software for that matter) to connect to a wireless network. I just installed XP and did all the updates. Everything is legal (I've validated it and everything). Windows tells me I need to turn on WZC (Wireless Zero Configuration) before I can connect to anything wirelessly though. I searched Google for some answers and it turns out it's a service I have to start in the control panel. Well, I did, I set it "automatically turn on", and it connected to the network. But the second I restart my computer, it's turned off again and I have to go through all that just to enable it again. wtf

You installed the wireless client software for your wireless card? If so it and windows are fighting each other. Use one or the other. zero config sucks...so disable the service, much better off to use your client software.

Yes. I like Zero Config though and in the past I could just turn it on once and Windows would automatically use it instead of my software every time. Any reason why it won't "remember" my preference this time?

Uninstall whatever software you installed for your wireless card and then try again.

You can just install the NIC with the inf from the install CD and then you don't need all the extra SW that it adds in, if you like the Windows one.
