Windows is not recognizing WD SATA hard drive for GA-K8NXP-SLI MB!!

Hi! This is my first ever build 🙂 I have a GIGABYTE "GA-K8NXP-SLI" MB and am trying to install a Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive. The BIOS recognizes the hard drive, I can see hte name on startup. I have also installed the drivers for it doing so when windows asks if you wish to install 3rd party drivers press F6.
But still windows ends up saying didnt find any hard drive! I have disabled all RAID function in my BIOS and have SATA1 and SATA2 enabled but thats not working. The drivers I have installed are SIL3114 drivers as SATA_SIL is controlled by Sil3114 on the MB. have also been playing around with other settings with no luck.

Can anyone point me in the right direction! Thanks 🙂

Hmm. weird. Are you using XP? or SP1 or SP2?

You are putting the SIL drivers on a floppy? What version are they?

i have an old version of xp, so i dont think it has SP1,SP2.

yes i am putting them on a floppy, the dirver is SIL3114. There were also other drivers SIL3114 RAID, SIL3114 RAID5, but i would imagine i dont need them. i hope my windows xp is not causing problems. dont feel like spending more money on a new xp!

i also tried NV controller and it was strange that the moment i tried it my video card fan started making weired noises! so i got a RMA for video card! oh and to top this off i have noticed cpu fan not starting on severral ocassions, i then turned the cpu alarm on in the bios and it went off once and it went off once since then, so i had to restart my computer and it worked again. i think i need to get an RMA for that too.

You can slipstream your current copy of windows XP.

Make C:\xpiso\root

Copy the entire contents of your xp cd into \root

Get service pack 2. The Microsoft site is slow. Here is a list of mirrors.
http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?t...owsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe&action=Find
Download it as xpsp2.exe into \xpiso

Stop here and PM me to learn something interesting.

Download/overwrite this as deploy.cab into \root\support\tools
http://download.microsoft.com/download/...owsXP-KB838080-SP2-DeployTools-ENU.cab

Download this as support.exe into \xpiso
http://download.microsoft.com/download/...indowsXP-KB838079-SupportTools-ENU.exe

Start->Run
c:\xpiso\support.exe /C /T:c:\xpiso\root\support\tools
when it asks about overwrite, Alt+A or click Yes to all

Start->Run
c:\xpiso\xpsp2.exe /U /X:c:\xpiso\sp2

Start->Run
c:\xpiso\sp2\i386\update\update.exe /S:c:\xpiso\root

Download this
http://www.tacktech.com/pub/microsoft/bootfiles/bootfiles.zip

Extract the boot.ima file into \xpiso

Now, do you have Nero? What version?

yeppie i got it to work, problem was i was installing sil3114 driver instead of sil3114 RAID driver! how could i have missed that! thanks!

affan181,
I have the same motherboard with the same WD drive and the same symptons installing MCE 2005. Did you connect the WD drive to the red SATA connector on the motherboard with the red cable, or did you connect to the yellow SATA connector with the yellow cable? The motherboard manual is not real clear as to which connectors are associated with which set of drivers.
Thanks
