I remember the thread regarding this a long time ago that popularized "Ctrl + Enter". I just did one by mistake that I didn't know. In IE (possibly other browsers as well), "Alt + Home" brings up your default homepage.:D

Post some more (or find the other thread)....as I recall it was quite informative for the general population.

For crying out loud neither did I. Now I know how the darned Text size mysteriously changes on me. I use Ctl C Ctl V a lot and well sometimes I still move the mouse by mistake. I never realized it was a short cut kicking in.

You learn something new everyday until the day you die, then you learn the biggie of them all. :D

Hmmm, sounds like a good sig :)

I use F5 and F4 all the time.

F5 refreshes the page, F4 highlights adress bar.

they're different for Firefox. F4 doesn't highlight the address bar, only alt+d

alt+g also doesn't go to the search bar :(

is there a site that lists these? I was talking about it yesterday actually, very useful

if you have fast fingers, I do it all the time. Plus all the keys are in the same general area....

Alt, Space, N

Also for maximizing:

Alt, Space, X

Note: the comma instead of plus mean press and let go ;)

F6 does teh same thing.
F4 focuses on the address bar but it also drops it down.
Ctrl+Enter adds www. and .com to the address bar.
Ctrl+H brings up your history.
Ctrl+D adds the current page to the bookmarks.
Alt+LeftArrow moves you back.
Alt+RightArrow moves you forward.
F11 changes to full screen mode.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc brings up the Task Manager

My thinkpad has special keys for back and forward, right next to the arrow up on the keyboard... so when I'm looking for left or right, many times I hit back or forward by accident. It's highly annoying. Moreso than the older one of putting ESC right above F1. It really sucks to get help when you are trying to get out of a window quickly. And now you have to close that too.

F11 Maximizes / Restores window size. Works for the javapopups too.

There was another thread of these, in the archvies, there's one to display the address bar when it's not there... that is handy when I remember it.

Alt+Left Arrow is better because you might have a text field selected, backspace wouldn't work in that case.

SHIFT + INSERT (Paste) and SHIFT + DELETE (Cut) lets you cut/paste on many pages that block CTRL-V and right-click :)

It's a hold-over from the DOS days.

Put your username and password in the URL to an FTP server to log right in. MS removed this feature for HTTP because it was used to obscure the actual website's URL by using extended login credentials that look like a URL to push the website's actual URL off the screen.

ftp://username:password@domainname.com still works great.

I use almost all of these daily: ALT + left/right, F5, F6, ALT + SPACE + N, F11, CTRL + Roll, etc :)

For those of you using MDI browsers (ie, AOL with multiple browsers within the interface) use "ALT + hyphen + n" etc

If you ever come across a Win95A (No FAT32 or USB support) machine, click the start button to select it then click it again so it will remain selected but no longer open hit ALT + hyphen and you will see a close option. Select that and the button goes "poof" ;) Use ALT + F4 to close applications and windows and do it with the desktop selected to shutdown/restart (to fix the Start button!).

Just like the relationship SHIFT has with TAB and SHIFT + TAB :) (SHIFT + TAB deserves a mention here)

I'd still use ALT + left / right for both back and forward buttons ;)
