Windows installer service not correctly installed?! Please help

I'm trying to install the new beta version of PSP... and I got this message when the installer tried to run:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe
mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

This has also happened whenever I tried to install a program like DeadAIM, also.

Can anybody tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

What OS are you using? Are you on a work network or is this at home? Do you have the rights to install these programs?

maybe you need to update your install shield. Try going to their website and download the correct one for your OS.
