Windows installer missing

I teach at a HS. Two of my computer's, with XP Pro now come up with "windows installer not found" when I try to delete or add new software. All computers in the lab are suppose to be the same. One had this condition for the last 2 months and now another one has it. All have Clean Slate installed and are attached to a network. Do I need to reinstall XP? I don't really want to do that because there is a lot of programs that I would have to reinstall. That would be a real pain. The first one had this condition before Clean Slate was installed (I managed to install Clean Slate on it via the network) and the other one after Clean Slate was installed.
Any ideas on what to do?

Ehh, guess it said Windows Installer 2.0 couldn't be reinstalled but I thought that was the latest. Not sure if 2.0 MSIs will use 3.0 though, kind of like .NET 1.1 progs don't use 2.0 correctly?

3000th post. 🙂
