Windows Install Fail: Press Ctrl+Alt+Del

Every time I try to install Windows XP on a SATA disk, I'm getting the following error.

I believe it's got to do with OS and the way it recognizes HDD partitions, so I tried everything from formatting to totally wiping the disk (via floppy utility). But regardless I can't seem to install Windows XP (32-bit).

What gives?

I haven't had any issue installing XP on SATA controllers. Maybe there's an issue with the media or the DVD drive itself?

Thanks for suggestions. But I've tried every conceivable method I could try so far.

1. Different CD/DVD-ROMs (PATA and SATA)
2. Different CDs
3. Different HDDs
4. Different cables
5. Different ports on the board
6. Disabling/Enabling IDE (thus leaving SATA only)
7. Using 3rd party software to erase/partition HDDs in Windows and DOS
8. BIOS flash
9. RAID (lol)
etc..

how is sata setup in the bios is it set to raid?

are you using raid?

have you tried the F6 give it some drivers at install? this shouldnt matter realy if only using it w/o raid.

most common problem is a bios missconfiguration

Is this when you are trying to boot from CD? Or did you just leave the option to boot from CD in the bios enabled, and it's skipped that and going to your HD to boot?

If its the first: This doesn't have anything to do with windows, the XP boot cd your using is not working. or your cd/dvd drive is crapping out

If its the latter: could be something with the MBR. however a full format should have taken care of this. If the SATA is the only HD connected, then when you run XP setup it should come under there assuming you loaded the drivers for the controller

Allanv: I've tried both RAID and no RAID mode in the BIOS. And for both cases, I tried installing with clean XP SP2 CD, installing IDE/RAID drivers via floppy, and even slipstreaming the drivers into the XP disk.

pcgeek11: done there already

AlucardX: Both cases. It loads the Windows installation files fine, then after, whether I just leave it alone (boot from CD: default) or I switch to 'Boot from HD' on reboot. It still happens.

Is this a patched XP disk (e.g. sp1 or sp2 slipstreamed) or a original XP disk? Just wondering if your running into some large drive issue that are manifesting themselves strangely... (I would have sworn physical disc error until I read more of your post...)
