Windows install corrupted..

Ok, so I had 2 partitions, one with Windows XP and one with Windows 7, I decided to remove one of the partitions and expand the other. So I ran GParted and deleted the XP partition, then I expanded the Windows 7 partition left, to use the newly created space. However the entire installation is now not recognized. The Windows files are there, but the installation is not listed as a boot option, and is not available as an installation on the repair disc. Is there any way to make my Windows partition boot-able again?

Sounds like you probably broke the MBR (master boot record) I know there are tools to rebuild this but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Well I attempted to fix the mbr, and now when i boot from the HDD, instead of showing 'CD-ROM boot priority' it shows the notorious flashing underscore, but still no fix :/

Well, I have now tried to make the system partition active, using diskpart, however I get the error 'specified partition not valid for the operation', any ideas? :\

you will need to reinstall windows 7...do it as a custom option. The reason is--xp was the first partition on the disk--the boot partition. Windows 7 puts files on that partition and you deleted them when you combined the partitions...actually deleted the xp partition and then expanded the win7 partition...
