Windows ICS question

My main computer is running Win98SE and my laptop is running WinME. Does it matter which machine ICS is installed on?? I would like to share my DSL line between the two, but I would like it set up so that a specific machine does NOT have to be on for the other to access the internet. If this is unavoidable, it definitely can't be the laptop that's on all the time. Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Really for the application of what you're doing, I would suggest purchasing a home router and setting up a network. It would be inconvenient to attempt to run ICS on both. It sorta runs in the background of Windows so you'd be better off just having one of the systems on 24/7. A router would give you more stability since it is a load for Windows to serve as a gateway, but it saves you $60-100. I hope that helps.

For running ICS on 2 machines you would have to have 2 NICs per machine and a crossover cable to connect them. It would easier, faster and probably more economically feasible to get a router and patch cords for sharing the connection. Plus it leaves you open for adding any future machines to the network. Just my thought on the subject, take it as you like.:)
