WINDOWS I REALLY HATE YOU SOMETIMES

starcraft. it plays fine, afterwards, it closes of course, but it is sort of still running. its still in the taskbar, and in taskmgr it says its not responding. so i "end task" it. no go. so i go over to processes and try to kill the starcraft.exe process. that proceeds to freeze the task manager. so i just figure screw it and go on with my business and within a few minutes i get a BSOD, although i forget exactly what it says, "exceeded pages" or something like that. stupid windows, it's a 5 year old game, wtf is going on.

one of the many reasons i am migrating to linux. fsck you, bsod.

Starcraft works perfectly for me under Win2K. Play it all the time with six other players - three of which are running Win2K and none of us have a problem.

What happens if you don't end the task - does it keep running indefinitely?

Whenever I play it under 2K, I am prompted for the CD which I inserted. I have to reboot to 98 to play it. What's up?

Do you have autorun disabled?

After inserting the CD, goto My Computer and press F5 and see if it detects the Starcraft CD - if not I'd say that there must be something wrong with your CD - its strange that its working under Win98 though.

Yep, I had that myself. It's that lovely ZoneAlarm, unistall it and the problem will go away. BTW simply disabling the firewall will NOT solve it. You HAVE to UNISTALL i completely and that includes deleting all the registry settings manually.

After that incident and some network problems I gave up on firewalls. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Nope. I'm MrGrim from Starcraft, Brood War GRC-1. 😉

BTW Have you heard of Black Ice Defender? It's supposed to be a very good firewall, but I don't think it's free.

BingBongWongFooey : Did removing ZoneAlarm solve your problem? I'd just like to know for future reference 🙂

tiny firewall is supposed to be the next best thing to ZA. i havent uninstalled ZA, EAC also did the same thing to me earlier, and windows is just buggin out on me alot lately. i think its time for a reinstall. gotta do that soon.
