I installed the Evaluation edition of WHS on one of my testbeds saturday morning. So far, I've set up almost all my PCs on it, configuring back up options and setting up remote access.

What is the best way to configure streaming media? I see in the console there is an option for media sharing, but I don't see any option for streaming. I can upload or copy media into the shared media folders and users can download the media, but how do I set up streaming?

I did some quick googling and found a lot of hits on it, but no definitive, current how-tos, though its late and I haven't dug too deep yet. One site I found suggest Orb as a good streaming media server. The impression I'm getting is that WHS doesn't support streaming media out of the box and relies on 3rd party addons for this feature? Is Orb decent or is there another addon that works better?

Another question too, I have a large number of MP3s. Roughly 2/3rds of them were purchased through iTunes before they went DRM-free. Will they be able to be streamed to non-authorized PCs, or will I have run them though an app to strip the Fairplay out?

I know zilch about streaming from WHS. But my understandingis that, without help, you won't be able to stream DRM-protected media to other devices.

It supports streaming OOB through windows media connect, which probably doesnt support itunes encrypted files. Itll stream to 360s and other PCs with windows media player.

Thats only over LAN though. If you're talking about online streaming, youll definitely need something like orb.

My suggestion? Install Windows Media Player 11 and use it to share.

The built in sharing would not work with my PS3 and tversity would not work exactly how it should
