Windows Home Server /w Xbox 360

Does anyone know if you can stream your video and audio files from Windows Home Server directly to the Xbox 360 for playback as a media center extender? Or do you have to go thru a PC running windows media center first that is then conneceted to the Xbox 360?

Currently, I have my plain vanilla server (not running windows home server currently) that stores my movies and music. Then I have my main PC that runs windows media center that is networked to my server. I then have my Xbox 360 running as an extender off my PC. I was hoping that if I pick up windows home servier, I could cut my PC out of the equation because I have to turn on my PC every time I want to use my Xbox 360 to access media center. I leave my server on all the time so it would be nice to just flip on the 360 and be able to access everything directly on my server without having to walk over and turn on my PC first.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can do this, and no, you do not need a media center to do it. Home Server has Windows Media Connect included, which is what is needed to connect to music, pictures and video from the Media blade on the 360.

Furthermore it's possible to trick the 360 in to thinking the WHS is a MCE server. This allows you to use the much better MCE interface, instead of the generic media player interface.

No kidding...cool! Got a link?

Yeah. I would be interested in that too. I was hoping to keep the media center interface on my 360, rather than just being able to browse my files thru windows media connect.

I'm afraid I don't immediately have a link, however there should be a couple of hits for it somewhere on Microsoft's WHS forum.
