Windows Home Server and hot swappability

I have been reading around about SATA and swappability and Window Home Server. Here's my question, if I get several hot swappable hard drives to use with Windows Home Server and install them in hot swappable kits, can I just yank it out whenever I want and still have the data? I want to have the ability where if I MUST get away immediately, I can just yank the drives out and take it with me (e.g. no disconnect it via logging into windows and unplug it, then take the drives out).

Thanks,

i think you have to notify whs that youre going to take a drive out... i dont think its hot swappable...

but maybe there's a tweak for it

No, you have to notify WHS so that it can check to see if it needs to move data off of that drive.

Yeah. Its not meant to be any sort of repository for portable data.

If you have several drives and folder duplication enabled, it will spread the data around as well as possible so that if a single drive fails, you can swap it out and swap a new one back in, and let WHS handle everything.

Theres no telling what data will be on what drive, so removing one like that is going to be rather pointless.

But if you're talking about a situation where your house is on fire, and you want to be able to grab the disks quick - in that case, most if not all of your data should be safe, unless its brand new data thats currently being written for the first time. The backups would prob be fine too, although I wouldnt be so sure about the actual WHS OS booting.
