windows harddrive testing software

looking for some software to test a disk that I thought was dead a few mounths ago but it seems to be running fine but I want to test it before I risk data on it

would depend on a drive maker.. seagate has seatools enterprise that works under windows. for most other stuff you'll be better off using the ultimate boot cd as it has all the manufacturers testing tools preconfigured (get it here)

if you prefer to manually assemble the tools and utilities and build your own boot cd then Bart's PEBuilder is the absolute best thing around

It costs but GRC's SpinRite 6 is IMO the best bet for what your looking for, if your willing to pay for the software. Well worth it though!
