WD40 is a Water Diplacer, is water causing the problem?

What kind of window (slider, hung, etc...) and made from (wood, vinyl, fiberglass?)

slider?
it's your typical window, 2 pieces, one on top of the other (the top piece is more recessed into the window frame/jamb). the one below slides up, or the one above slides down.

No that is a hung window. Sounds like a double hung. There might not be rollers in that. If so then you will need to pull the window out (both should lean out if its a double hung) and clean the railing on the sides, then put a small amount of white/lithium grease on it.

cool beans.
i don't think there are rollers either. i've tilted it in when cleaning and it just glides on a track.

Ah...ok, single hung window. From the wording in your OP, I thought you meant a slider. (opens side-to-side, not top-to-bottom)

Wood frames, aluminum, or vinyl?

BTW, instead of grease on a window frame, bees wax may be a better option.

If you can get the window open at all, use candle wax to lubricate.

If it's stuck, you can try WD-40- it will break paint and grime bonds that may be causing the window to stick.

i used the gunk spray lube, the non flammable stuff if that matters. It's been good on the screen door track for about a month already. make sure you clean up the excess, especially if you have tile or linoleum.

Sticky window? Apply lead.

Thanks to that 1935 newspaper someone posted, you have an answer.
