Windows hanging on shutdown with new gfx card

Hi there, hope you can help me out.

Recently I bought a new gfx card, a MSI Radeon 7870 hawk to replace a Nvidia GTX 460, but my PC is hanging on shutdown and reboot. This problem didn't occur until I installed the new card, and I have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and ran driver sweeper before installing the 7870.

At first I took out the gfx card out and plugged it back in, reinstalled drivers, and the problem was still there. I thought it might be a process running causing it to hang, but even when closing CCC.exe and MOM.exe plus all other open programs and processes it still hangs on shutdown. I have tried using driver sweeper in safe mode and also tried a windows startup repair as well.

I have since then taken the card out and am using the Intel HD 3000 graphics on my cpu, and my pc reboots and shuts down just fine now, but it still puzzles me as to why it hangs with the 7870. My system ran fine otherwise with it installed, and I have played 10 hours of Crysis with no issues and I have not done any overclocking on the cpu, ram or graphics card.

Here are my specs-

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel Core i7 2600k
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard
8 gigs Mushkin DDR 3 1600 ram
Samsung 830 SSD
Seagate 500 gig and 160 gig hard drives
Asus Xonar DG sound card
Antec Earthwatts EA500 500w psu

Thanks for the replies. I am using the lastest 12.8 driver and reinstalled the card and tried disabling startup items but it still was hanging on shutdown. It took me awhile to figure it out, but what was actually happening was that I had multiple versions of Netframework installed and that caused Catalyst Control Center to hang on shutdown or sometimes not open.

I had to do this in the registry to make my pc shutdown and reboot properly-

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/.NETFRAMEWORK, create a string value "OnlyUseLatestCLR" and set the value to 1, only 1.
