Hello. For the past couple weeks my computer has been very slow to boot up windows. I have XP home edition with SP3. It began when i restarted after installing a windows update roughly 2 weeks ago. No errors or other problems. It hangs at the login screen for about 30 seconds then my desktop background pops up but no taskbar/icons for about 2-3 mins. then it runs fine. No viruses are found when i scan it. Nothing else was installed after the update so im hoping this is simply an issue with a bad update. Thanks for any help.

specs:
AMD 3700 2.2(i believe) ghz. not overclocked
2gb. g.skill ddr
160gb. WD hd.
nvidia 7800gt
DFI lan party ultra mobo

Was the update in question actually SP3?

If so, there were many issues with SP3 and certain hardware.
There are workarounds though.

No. The update was not SP3 itself. It was just a security update. Sorry, wish i could be more specific, but i forgot what the exact update was.

One quick way to check:

Try uninstalling the suspected update via Add-Remove programs and see if the issue goes away.
