Windows GUI on Linux.

look for lindows. they're doing something kinda like that. nobody is sure if it is for real or not though. basically they're copying it very closely as a theme on KDE (a linux "gui"). presently, you can't wine explorer.exe (at least, last time I tried), but if you could, that would be a step to perfectly copying the GUI.

edit: wine emulates windows so you can run windows programs under linux. thats the simple version. it doesn't really emulate, but i dont feel like explaining, and its all on winehq already 😉

Wow that cool. Wine is really taking off! Yesterday I bought that Mandrake 8.1 gamers edition that uses WineX and allows for quite a few Windows games to be played on Linux. I hope Wine development keeps getting better because that screenshot look fabulous.

you can get window-clone skins/themes for most window managers. out of boredom, i made one for blackbox 😛

of course i dont use it :/

I wouldnt want windows' GUI on linux .. i dont like the GUI , but like KDE has a built-in classic windows theme i believe, it wont look just like it, but menus and stuff will be similar .. there are gui's that look much better in my opinion, just my thoughts ..

I totally agree - why would you want the Windows GUI? Some of the X frontends are much better (KDE and Windowmaker spring to mind).
