Windows GUI: living room TV

I need a gui or some kind of interface for windows that will make it more living room friendly. Ive been searching for a windows blind or some thing. All the Blinds authors dont actually make any thing useful. Just pretty. Which i could care less about. Im looking for a simplified media interface for a 480i screen where the important stuff it will be used for is at my fingertips. Any ideas?

A simplified media interface you say? Why not just use Windows Media Center?

This is exactly what Media Center does.

There are also tons of other HTPC software products, MediaPortal, Meedio, BeyondTV/Media...

I use GBPVR combined with girder and an infrared receiver.

This allows the whole sytem to be run with the TV remote control.

Definatley Media Center. There are linux alternatives too, like MythTV. If you get everything working right you should be able to watch TV, video files and listen to music with a remote control.

Run Media Center

Just to clarify. not all versions of windows have Media Center. You didn't specify what version of windows you are running. The versions that come with Media Center are:

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (I believe there are earlier versions but you should stick to 2005 at a minimum)
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Ultimate

Media Center is very good. It provides a nice interface for all of your media and with a TV tuner card or three is excellent at watching and recording TV. For more information you can check out www.thegreenbutton.com

yeah, it will be in the program files. you can check your windows version by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties.

It will say

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005

or something along those lines.
