windows good yes or no poll!

Windows is not my favourite OS, but I much rather it than Linux or the old Mac OS's (before OS X). I put "no, but have i have to since i play games", although the only game I play that I can't on my mac is Flight Sim 2002. All the others I play run on the mac.

Windows is OK. I don't like it so much, but I am not going to hold it against anybody if they like it. 😉

Sometimes I would like to have a copy laying around so that I can play around with it, especially win2k3, but the costs outweigh the benifits for me right now.

Go get the free 6 month trial version of 2003 from MS.

It depends on your situation.

For my general workstation I would need Windows. All the programs I use run on it.

But if I was building a big rendering or crunching farm, them I would probably settle with Linux to save costs.

Depends on what sort of apps you want!

For a great computer language for building simple to complex applications check out Python

It a interpreted language that is compiled the first time you make a program. It is generally cross platform meaning that you can write a program that can be easily ported from one OS to another. There are lots of toolkits for making GUI apps. There are things like pygame (SDL (simple direct media layer. Sortof a simple form of DirectX for Linux) wrapper), pyopengl for making games and such.

Dependancies can be a pain, but if you make in Linux and want it to be used for Windows folks you can make pretty much standalone executables in binary form with a little installer so it's easy for them.

It's completely object oriented language that can be used for creating things like cgi scripts or you can use it with Zope to create fairly complex online webpages/applications.

And the good thing is that it's fairly easy to learn, it's syntax follows closely to c/c++ except that it doesn't use so many brackets and it depends on whitespace, and the skills you pick up using it are directly applicable to most other forms of programming.

But it mostly would depend on what you want to do and which platform your most comfortable operating in.

I use Final Cut Pro, so I cant use a Windows PC. Not only that, I just never had a good experience with a Windows PC. I think I am jynxed when it comes to Windows. So I stick to my Macs.

Sorry Windows, but no.

my friend is going to get the powerbook g5 i found 3 different pictures on it. one the big fat one lol one folds makes like t.v and stuff. and the last one looks normal but i have been hearing all the pics are not them they are still having problems with cooling and battery life. i heard they might to liquid cooling?

anyways, i use windows xp pro i like it but just to know they could make a better one makes me mad. one thing i dont like is when people dont like macs for no reason they just dont like them i think the truth is they dont know how to use them maybe so they just say they dont like them. i mean guys they are pretty good they made the 1st 64bit processor. they made firewire and ipod.

The powermac G5s are liquid cooled. I don't think there will be a powerbook g5 before H2 next year. Just a guess though. 😉

SUN had a 64bit processor before Apple had one. Of course, IBM's been making them for a while, so I'm not sure who came out with them first. My money would be on DEC though. 😉

He's wrong. They might have used the first 64bit processor intended for desktop use (it barely beat out the AMD64 chips), but not the first. 😉

And IBM makes the processors, if you didn't know. 🙂

I thought SGI beat DEC to it by about 6 months with their R4000 (although the OS was still 32 bit), but it was close. Could be wrong, just seem to remember...

Yea, most Mac users are uninformed about the rest of the industry.

SGI, DEC, HP, IBM, etc. Just about everyone but Intel and AMD have had 64-bit processors a lot longer than Apple.

i dont care what anyone says...

windows > any os

general use, gaming, compatibility, simplicity, and of course, very user friendly.

linux is awesome... but not for everyday use. servers only. 🙂

In case anyone was doubting that this is a subjective thing and one person's opinion may not match up to the opinions of another:
I think Windows is complicated, has almost no compatibility with many of the applications I use (without a lot of hassle), is quite hostile towards the user, and a pain in the brain to use. 😉

It's possible, DEC was a semi-educated guess. 😉

simplicity and user friendliness are 2 things Windows is seriously lacking in. Windows only seems simple and friendly because you already know the system, if you have ever tried to help someone use it that has never used a computer before, you would know this.

Odd, my home desktop and laptop run it every day and they're not servers...
