Windows freezing while music plays...

i got a new sound card,(diamond Monster Sound MX300) and installed it. i started noticing that Windows would just freeze up completley when i run some kind of sound. but its totally random, i can play Mp3s for hours sometimes and then all of a sudden it'll just freeze during one. or i can just be on AIM and it'll freeze when i get sent a message the "Bling" message sounds comes on. it seems to only happen in Windows, any thoughts? btw its Win98 ver. 1.
