had an MSI K7N2
just got a replacement abit NF7

The system posts fine, but when it gets to the part, just before windows starts to load it just sits, never showing the windows xp load up screen.

Only hardware changes are 6800oc agp to 6600gt, don't have the 6800oc anymore to test..

Anything I may need to do or havnt checked?

update: well, now im trying to do a fresh install and the pc keeps frewezing at 34 minutes of the xp setup screen...

ive rebooted 4 times

Three options here since you've changed MBs:

[*]Boot to safe mode and if it makes it try to reload mb drivers, etc

[*]Boot off windows OS disc and select 'repair windows'....that will try a hardware redetect and could get your previous installation to a bootable point where you can install the mb drivers, etc

[*]Fresh install

What do you mean it wont start? Does it give an error?

Make sure your new MB has CD-ROM set as a boot device before the HD. Otherwise since it finds a bootable partition it will go to it all the time before the CD-ROM.

btw a little bit of advice when it comes to replacing MBs and Windows. Just do a fresh reinstall to save yourself the hassle of working with a buggy or unstable situation. I do this stuff all the time and have yet to see a MB being replaced work well with Windows. WinXP I would imagine will require an activation even if you manage to get it working. Hell I replaced a CD-R + CD-ROM with a DVD-RW and it required one lol

In general, you can't do what you did. 😀

You are likely going to have to reactivate if you do get windows going.

What part of the installation is it freezing? Sometimes it will sit there for minutes on the same spot. No idea what it is doing. But it eventually kicks into gear.

Edit: By fresh install you mean you blew away the partition and reformatted right?

Make sure your system Isn't overclocked, I Know you wanted to run that 2500 at 3200, but drop it back down for now and run the install. Same for the ram, run default timings.

That's my suggestion... unless you've already tried that.

Also pull out any cards that you don't need. 3rd party sound, nic etc.
