Can't seem to solve this. I reformatted the hard drive and after installing the setup files, the computer posts and attempts to boot into windows. However, it freezes on the logo screen. Every time.

I've tried this with 2 separate hard drives.
I've removed all non-critical devices.
I've replaced the IDE cables

Any ideas? Possibly a bad video card? It worked before the reinstall though. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

Sounds like a bad install disc. Can you try another copy of Windows? (I presume XP since you mentioned an IDE hard drive).

Maybe a corrupted .cab file on the disc.

Have you tried with a different CD ROM drive? Or installing from a USB hard drive?

when you say you removed all non-critical components, I'm assuming you booted with just:

motherboard
processor / fan
memory
video card (if not built into motherboard)
Power supply
Hard Drive

(I.e. no network cards, modems, add-in USB ports, etc)

Could be a memory issue.
Run memtest86 or "Windows Memory Diagnostics" and make sure there are no errors.

Sounds like it might be a controller problem. Check HD interface settings in the BIOS and make sure they’re correct: AHCI, RAID, IDE, etc.

Also, make sure that if you have a RAID controller on your mobo you’ll need to either supply the drivers during XP setup with a floppy, or slipstream them into a new disk. http://www.nliteos.com/

Can you get into Safe Mode at all?

My money is on this. Change the hd mode settings (if IDE, then AHCI, and vice versa).

I recently saw a similar issue. I had to change my HD to IDE mode from AHCI in the BIOS.
