Hello everyone,

I was hoping to hear (well rather not), or see if anyone has had any similar issues with WinXP SP2 windows firewall service.

For an unknown reason, every time i enable the service, and do a reboot, the service even though it is set to auto, is stoped once the machine is back up.

Ive check for viruses, etc, or anything that could be for what ever reason, be stoping the service, but i have found nothing (have used spybot, adaware, norton 2k3, stinger, etc, etc, etc).

I have also checked local policy, and i have set it there to start on auto, but even after starting the service, and having the firewall turned on, after a reboot, it gets stoped again, and the firewall then as it should gets disabled.

Any help on this matter would get appricated.

Thanks.

Well, with SP2, you no longer need to enable it for a single connection, but rather just enable the firewall, in which case, it turns on the firewall for all connections.

(Global firewall I believe is the new term MS is using).

And to answer you question, yes, i have enabled the firewall yet when i reboot it is not per say turned off, but when i try to check it status i get "Windows Firewall service is turned off, would you like to enable it", and as always i click yes, once i do this, the firewall is once more enabled and turned on.

Question is...what is turning the firewall service of every reboot?! :/

Jack,

Lots of great tips/info on the site that you provided with before, yet there is no information related to the issue i am having at the moment.

Thanks for the link though, all good stuff to know, that you may never know when you might need it. :)
