Windows firewall on or off on servers

Looking for some feedback on how server admins configure Windows firewall on servers. Do you turn it off, leave it on or customize depending upon how the server is used or accessed?

We're trying to develop a consistent practice for our servers (500+). Windows 2003/2008.

That's a good article and an expected response from Microsoft. I have no problem with that, but would really like to hear personal experiences as well. We're planning a technical discussion in two weeks around the pro/con and MS recommendations.
