Hopefully someone can help me as this is a pretty annoying problem...

Sometimes when i turn my computer on it works just fine...

Other times it goes to that screen that says last known configuration and boot windows normaly, I use boot windows normaly... and it works when I do that

__
____

But just half an hour ago I installed King Kong, started playing and a minute in the game it starting freazing up realy badly, wouldn't CTRL+ATL+DEL or anything

So I was forced to just press the power button, so I did..

When it went up again it wasn't working, last known configuration, or start normaly - didn't matter, always failed.

Then I booted in safe mode and did a system restore
____
________

So it's back up again but I'm sure the problems will continue..

Is there any way to fix this for good?

windows install could be messed up? try reinstalling windows.

try running memtest86 and see how your memory does.

If you dont want to do that just drop in some spare memory you have laying around, pop those in, see what happens.

just some suggestions.

are you overclocked at all?
list system specs please!

Nothing is overclocked right now, and for memtest I need a floppy disk or something?

your DFI board might have an option for it in the BIOS. hit delete at bootup, and the option should be inside the first selection on the right hand column. should say something like 'run memtest86+' enable/disable after you go to the page.

someone else will chime in soon. My finger points to the memory, but it looks like you got all recent, new stuff. Heck just switching banks might fix it. or it could be something entirely different.

If I re-install windows does everything else get erased?

You can re-install Windows over a previous installation without formatting the drive, but it's usually not recommended. I've done it a few times myself, but the 2nd install always seemed to have a few problems, though functional.

Of course you will lose all your registry info and any protected folders/files may be inaccessible until you change the rights.

Try ALL of the following:
1 - Boot from the Win XP cd to recovery console. Do a "Chkdsk c:" or whatever is your drive letter.
2 - Boot into safemode or regular mode, go to start, run, and type "sfc /scannow" making sure you have the WinXP cd in your cd/dvd drive.
3 - Last option - Boot from WinXP cd. Go to windows setup, and when it detects an existing install and asks if you want to try repairing the current install, press R to repair.

Im positive one of these 3 will fix your problem.

King Kong has starforce on it. Starfoce is known/rumoured to fudge up some peoples computers. I would say reinstall Windows.
