Windows explorer suddenly very slow to open

When I open windows explorer is is suddenly very slow to open...where would I trouble shoot to fix this?

That happened to me on an XP install. The power dropped while defragging, and explorer got dicked up. It worked fine, but the speed was glacial. I fixed it by installing an explorer replacement, and further fixed it by installing Xubuntu. Dunno how to deal with it otherwise. You can't easily reinstall individual packages in Windows.

Run CrystalDiskInfo to make sure your drive is healthy by reading SMART status.

You don't happen to have a bad disc in your DVD drive do you? Each time you open explorer it tries to check all your drives, and if one drive can't read very well it slows the whole thing down.
